La Chiquita Rosa: A Mazapán Old Fashioned

La Chiquita Rosa tequila cocktail Mazapán Old Fashioned

A tequila Old Fashioned reminiscent of a Mexican sweet treat.

Roasted peanuts and vanilla combine with the soft tones of reposado tequila in this Old Fashioned twist that’s reminiscent of a sweet treat. Mazapán is available at Latin and specialty markets.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. roasted peanut reposado tequila
  • 1/2 oz. Bénédictine
  • 1/4 oz. vanilla syrup
  • 1 dash chocolate bitters
  • 2 drops saline solution (5:1 ratio of water to Maldon sea salt)
  • 1 drop MSG solution (optional)
  • Tools:barspoon, strainer
  • Glass:double Old Fashioned
  • Garnish:mazapán

Preparation

Stir all of the ingredients with ice, then strain into a glass filled with a single large ice cube, and garnish.
Roasted Peanut Reposado TequilaPreheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Toast 1 cup of raw, unsalted peanuts on a pan for 10-15 minutes. Add the peanuts to a container along with 1 liter of reposado tequila, cover, and infuse for 24 hours. Double strain the infusion through cheesecloth, and bottle for use. Keeps indefinitely but flavor may fade.
MSG SolutionCombine 5 grams of MSG powder with 100 ml of water and stir until fully dissolved. Use within 6 weeks
