Josh Ibanez's Long Story Short tropical martini

A gin cocktail that sips like a Martini on a tropical vacay.

Josh Ibañez first experimented with this recipe in Houston with his managers at the time, Terry Williams and 2018 Imbibe Bartender of the Year Alex Negranza, looking for a cocktail that sipped like a Martini but skewed tropical. These days, Ibañez mixes the cocktail at at Rumba in Seattle, combining gin and Cocchi with rhum agricole and passion fruit.


  • 1 oz. London dry gin
  • 1 oz. rhum agricole blanc (Ibañez uses Rhum JM Blanc 100)
  • 1/2 oz. Cocchi Aperitivo Americano
  • 1/4 oz. passion fruit liqueur (such as Giffard)
  • 1 barspoon passion fruit syrup
  • Tools:barspoon, strainer
  • Glass:Nick & Nora
  • Garnish:dehydrated lemon wheel


Stir all of the ingredients with ice, then strain into a chilled glass and garnish.
