Day at the Races Beer Julep

What happens when you mix the elements of a summery julep with a hoppy IPA? This Day at the Races Beer Julep!


  • 1 oz. rye whiskey
  • 1/4 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. cane sugar syrup (1:1)
  • 6-7 mint leaves
  • 2 oz. IPA (Giger uses Bear Republic Racer 5)
  • Angostura bitters
  • Tools:muddler, shaker
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:mint sprigs


Add the lime juice, cane syrup, whiskey, and mint leaves to a shaker. Lightly muddle the mint. Add one ice cube and shake. Add the IPA, give it a quick swirl to chill and pour the contents into a rocks glass. Top with crushed ice. Add a few drops of Angostura bitters on top of the ice, then garnish.
