Basil Cocktail from Pobrecito

In this cocktail from Phoenix, fresh bell pepper and citrus create a bright baseline for vodka and Chartreuse.


  • 1 3/4 oz. vodka
  • 1/4 oz. yellow Chartreuse
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz. fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 oz. yellow bell pepper syrup
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 1 dash Hellfire Habanero Shrub
  • Tools:muddler, shaker, strainer, fine strainer
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:basil leaf


Muddle 2 basil leaves in a shaker tin. Add the remaining ingredients and ice. Shake until chilled. Fine strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Garnish.

Yellow Bell Pepper SyrupJuice 1 yellow bell pepper and combine the juice in a saucepan with equal parts of white sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat, cool, strain into a bottle and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
