Base Camp from Dutch Kills

A whisk(e)y cocktail for the holidays.

Bourbon’s vanilla notes get some extra oomph from a splash of smoky Islay whisky. Layered with hints
of chocolate, orange, and spice, this cocktail from Dutch Kills head bartender Matty Clark is holiday spirit in a glass. “The scotch leaves a nice fireplace note on the finish,” says Clark. “It checks all those boxes for the Old Fashioned–style cocktail you want to drink on a snowy night.”

Ingredients

  • 1 1⁄2 oz. bourbon
  • 3⁄8 oz. smoky single malt scotch (Clark uses Laphroaig 10-year-old)
  • 1⁄4 oz. crème de cacao
  • 1⁄4 oz. allspice liqueur
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • Tools:barspoon
  • Glass:Old Fashioned
  • Garnish:lemon twist

Preparation

Combine all of the ingredients in an Old Fashioned glass, then add ice and stir to chill. Garnish.
