Olive Temptation: A Dessert Coffee Cocktail

Isla & Co. Olive Temptation dessert coffee cocktail

An Irish coffee-inspired cocktail is a perfect stand-in for dessert.

For this Irish coffee riff with a sweet, fruity twist, Isla & Co. beverage director Jeremy Ortiz found inspiration in the classic pairing of banana cream pie with a cup of Joe. To round out the sweetness of the banana liqueur and the rich coffee, Ortiz tops the dessert coffee cocktail with salted cream and a few drops of savory olive oil.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. chilled coffee
  • 1 oz. whisky (Isla & Co. uses Starward Australian)
  • 1/4 oz. banana liqueur
  • 1/4 oz. rich demerara syrup
  • 3 oz. salted cream
  • Tools:shaker, strainer, milk frother
  • Glass:Coupe or Irish coffee mug
  • Garnish:olive oil drops

Preparation

Add the ingredients, except the salted cream, to an ice-filled shaker. Shake and strain into the chilled glass. Layer the top of the drink with salted cream and a few drops of olive oil, to taste.
Salted CreamAdd a small pinch of salt to 3 oz. of heavy cream. Use a milk frother to whip up the cream until it thickens but remains liquid. Be careful not to overdo it.
