Houston bartender Alex Negranza—who moved to the city from Seattle—named this drink for fellow transplant Slick Watts, an NBA point guard who played for the Seattle Supersonics from 1973 to 1978 before moving to Texas to play for the Houston Rockets.
1½ oz. bourbon (Negranza uses Old Granddad Bottled in Bond)
¾ oz. sweet vermouth (Cocchi Vermouth di Torino)
¼ oz. Campari
¼ oz. crème de mure (blackberry liqueur)
1 dash Peychaud’s bitters
Tools: barspoon, strainer
Garnish: orange zest with blackberry and cherry
Stir all the ingredients with ice to chill, and strain into an ice-filled glass, then garnish.
