La Playita: A Tropical Beer Cocktail

A fruity, tropical refresher with a hoppy finish.

To celebrate Baja, California, as well as Tijuana’s brewery culture, Chicago’s Leña Brava created this tropical beer cocktail. The fruity refresher balances the smoky depth of mezcal and rum with Ancho Reyes, sweetening it with tropical fruit and topping it with an IPA for a hoppy finish.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. rum
  • 1 oz. simple syrup (1:1)
  • 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. mezcal
  • 1/2 oz. passion fruit purée
  • 1/2 oz. guava purée
  • 1/4 oz. chile liqueur
  • 2 oz. tropical IPA
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:Collins
  • Garnish:dehydrated lime wheel and mint sprig

Preparation

Add all of the ingredients, except the IPA, to a shaker with ice and shake. Strain the cocktail over crushed ice in a glass. Top with the beer. Garnish.
