Drink of the Week: Cappelletti Alpeggio Hay Liqueur

American drinkers may be most familiar with Cappelletti for its vibrant red Aperitivo. But the historic Italian producer has a range of unique expressions adored by the bartending community, like their rhubarb amaro Sfumato Rabarbaro and the wormwood-forward Alta Verde Amaro. One of Cappelletti’s newer expressions to see wide release in the U.S. is Alpeggio Hay liqueur.

Inspired by the character of a high alpine meadow (called alpeggi), the herbal liqueur utilizes the local grasses and flowers used to make hay—but this bottle ain’t for horses. With a sweetly earthy aroma and grassy flavors up front, the elegant liqueur carries notes of chamomile, heather, and clover honey. Delicious sipped on its own as a digestif, or mixed with green tea or seltzer for a low-ABV option, Alpeggio Hay also pairs beautifully with whiskey and would make a knockout Hot Toddy. $34.99, curiada.com
