John’s Old Fashioned

old fashioned recipe

An extra smooth albeit slightly boozier take on the Old Fashioned.

At John’s Food and Wine in Chicago, general manager and drink creator Jonas Bittencourt loves a smooth sipper. For his twist on the Old Fashioned, he took a cue from the Manhattan and replaced the sugar with vermouth blanc, making for a smoother albeit slightly boozier take on the classic.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 oz. overproof bourbon
  • 1/2 oz. vermouth blanc
  • 2 dashes lemon bitters
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • Tools:mixing glass, barspoon
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:orange peel

Preparation

Add all of the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice. Stir to chill, then strain into a chilled glass over a large ice cube. Express with an orange peel and use as a garnish.
