N/AGRONI: An Alcohol-Free Negroni

Zero-Proof Cocktail

“By definition, this certainly isn’t a Negroni, but I looked to that and the Americano cocktail as godfathers in the building of flavor. By using cold-brew coffee and tonic I was able to find some of the complexity you get with sweet vermouth with flavors of vanilla, burnt sugar, and dried citrus peels,” says Watershed Kitchen + Bar beverage director Josh Gandee. “Those flavors paired with an aperitif syrup and the acidity from fresh lime juice back up the coffee and tonic as replacements for gin and Campari. Topping with soda makes it an extra light variation on the classics if you want the basics without the booze.”

1 oz. cold-brew coffee
½ oz. Giffard Aperitif Syrup
½ oz. tonic syrup
¼ oz. fresh lime juice
Club soda, to top
Tools: shaker, strainer
Glass: Collins
Garnish: dehydrated citrus wheel

Shake all ingredients (excluding the soda) together with ice and strain over fresh ice in a Collins glass. Top with soda and garnish with dehydrated citrus wheel of your choice.
