Fresa Fresca: Mixteca’s Strawberry Margarita

A berry infusion adds depth and complexity to this strawberry Margarita.

This simple twist on a strawberry Margarita recipe adds depth and complexity by infusing the fresh berries into the complementary richness of a tawny Port. “Victor [Lopez] tasted a lot of berry, particularly strawberry, in the Port and wanted to use that as the vehicle to bring strawberry into the Margarita,” says Jeff Bell, managing partner of New York City bar Mixteca.

Ingredients

  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:thin strawberry slice and mint sprig

Preparation

Combine all of the ingredients in a shaker, shake with ice, strain into an ice-filled glass, then garnish.
Strawberry-Infused PortCombine 25 medium-sized hulled strawberries and 750 ml of tawny Port in a blender. Blend for 90 seconds. Strain through a chinois or fine strainer lined with cheesecloth. Bottle and refrigerate for use within 2 weeks.
