Drink of the Week: Longbottom & Co. Bloody Mary Mix

On a recent flight, craving something salty and tangy, I ordered tomato juice (as one does.) The virgin Bloody Mary more or less hit the spot…for an airplane drink. But if I’m drinking a Bloody Mary at home, booze or no, I’d prefer something a bit more fresh tasting. Enter the newly stateside offering from Longbottom & Co: Virgin Mary Bloody Mary Mix.

The U.K.-based Longbottom, aiming to make a better Bloody Mary, sources Canary and Pear tomatoes from southern Spain and juices them fresh. The tomato juice is mixed with their house blend of spices and veggies, including olives, horseradish, plant-based Worcestershire (to keep it vegan), and Scotch Bonnet peppers for a kick of heat. The result is essentially everything I want from a Bloody Mary mix—salty, tangy, spicy, and with a noticeably fresh tomato flavor. And while I prefer to mix my Marys with gin, à la the Red Snapper, the Longbottom Virgin Mary is equally enjoyable right out of the can. $13.95/4-pack, drinklongbottom.com
