Drink of the Week: Greater Goods Coffee Co. Bright Minds

I often lay awake at night in anticipation of rising the next morning and drinking coffee. It’s as far away as possible from a “but first, coffee” thing, and rather a centering one, which can easily be taken care of sans caffeine, as my friend Emma Janzen recently wrote. And the way I see it, the privilege of waking up early to enjoy said coffee on a day off, with absolutely nothing urgent to do, is a luxury of the highest order. Whether for you that’s today, sometime this weekend, or a free day next week, there’s never a wrong time to observe the restorative ritual.

This Friday, I’ll be waking up to brew Greater Goods Coffee Co.’s Bright Minds. The Austin, Texas–based roaster, named Roast Magazine’s 2021 Micro Roaster of the Year, directly sourced these beans from Café Granja La Esperanza. Greater Goods has a robust charitable focus and has made impactful donations to organizations including the Central Texas Food Bank, Austin Pets Alive!, and the Autism Society of Texas (which this particular coffee supports). Bright Minds is a medium roast with notes of cherry cola and white pear that match it superbly to the season, and the coffee’s foundational warmth and stability will surely get my day started on the right foot. $18, greatergoodsroasting.com
