Drink of the Week: Don Fulano Blanco Tequila

Nowadays, a visit to the tequila aisle of any liquor store can be a bit daunting as shelves continually expand with options. One way to discern a tequila’s quality? Reading the label. And on Don Fulano Blanco’s bottle, it’s all there. In addition to being 100 percent pure agave and a product of Mexico from NOM 1146, five generations of the Fonseca family in Jalisco are behind Don Fulano tequila, which is crafted from mature agaves grown by the family in the Highlands.

And what’s in the bottle doesn’t disappoint. While many blanco tequilas are used for making cocktails, Don Fulano’s lovely, gentle aroma begs for it to be enjoyed neat. It’s subtly sweet but with a vegetal pepperiness, and because it’s unaged, that cooked agave comes through on the palate with notes of butterscotch, cinnamon, and pepper.
