Bloom No. 5: A Spring Cocktail

Springtime through a Margarita lens.

“The goal behind the Bloom No. 5 was to weave floral, springtime flavors into a classic Margarita template,” says Shelby Abell, bartender at Nashville’s Martha My Dear. To do this she combines Suze and elderflower liqueur, which balance one another and create a complex, bittersweet profile. Meanwhile, ginger and lemon brighten up the drink “to nail the ‘springtime in a glass’ vibe,” Abell adds.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. blanco tequila
  • 3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz. ginger syrup
  • 1/4 oz. Suze
  • 1/4 oz. elderflower liqueur
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:coupe
  • Garnish:lemon peel

Preparation

Combine all of the ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled coupe. Express a lemon peel and use as a garnish.
