Drink of the Week: Vivanterre White MSM 2020

Perhaps misleadingly named, the grape variety Melon de Bourgogne doesn’t dole out aromatic cantaloupe or honeydew. Rather the Burgundy native creates richly textured wines with bright, acidic profiles. One of the most delightful bottles of 100 percent Melon de Bourgogne I’ve tasted recently is from Vivanterre. Released in August, the unfiltered Vivanterre White MSM pops with a puckering, Lemonhead-like piquancy and generously offers the type of wet-rock minerality I want to drink year-round. The grapes are sourced from Romain Petitou’s vineyards, located in the Vallet subregion of the Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine appellation, which are currently undergoing biodynamic conversion. With the white MSM release, Vivanterre continues its lineup of fantastically fun wines that’ll please a crowd. $32, shop.vivanterre.com
