Drink of the Week: Stambecco Amaro

In Italy, the Alpine ibex long-horned mountain goat goes by the name stambecco. The regional name also graces a wonderfully Alpine-themed maraschino cherry amaro, recently released stateside. Created by Biggar & Leith and produced at Piedmont’s Torino Distillati, the amaro strikes a fine balance between sweet, syrupy maraschino flavors and the drier, marzipan-like flavors of a bitter amaretto. Distilled with a 30-botanical lineup that includes coriander seed, oregano, sweet and bitter oranges, and nutmeg, Stambecco would be excellent in cocktails from spritzes to Manhattans. However, I like it best straight from the freezer to wind down the night.  $31.50, bittersandbottles.com
