Drink of the Week: Smith Tea Soothe Sayer

There’s a reason that during difficult times, many people brew a cup tea. It’s a simple, easily accomplished task when we don’t know what else to do, and it often soothes the spirit like nothing else can. Needless to say, I’ve been drinking a lot of tea lately, so it was serendipitous timing that Portland-based Smith Teamaker recently released two herbal blends with an emphasis on relaxation and wellness. Soothe Sayer (peppermint, ginger, echinacea) and Lullaby (chamomile, lemongrass, lavender, ashwagandha) join last year’s release of turmeric blend Golden Light for a new Wellness Trio.

I’ve been brewing cups of the Soothe Sayer in the evenings after dinner. The blend’s peppermint and cacao nibs hint at dessert, while ginger root, nutmeg, licorice root and black pepper offer some earthy depth and spice. Body comforted, soul soothed, and another day managed. $13.99, smithtea.com
