Drink of the Week: LiveWire Tropipop

I appreciate the concept of canned cocktails: being able to crack open and enjoy a cocktail just as easily as a beer. They’re exceedingly useful when it comes to stuffing ice chests and entertaining crowds. But often, when I sip a canned cocktail, I find myself wishing it was freshly made—except when I drink LiveWire canned cocktails. Unlike many canned cocktails that are simply ready-to-serve versions of classics, LiveWire features original recipes created by celebrated bartenders. I’m a longtime fan of the Rocket Queen and Honeydew Collins, and lately, I have a new favorite: LiveWire Tropipop, a Piña Colada soda.

Unlike the other cocktails in LiveWire’s lineup, Tropipop is based on an already existing canned cocktail. Mike Capoferri originally made it for his Los Angeles bar, Thunderbolt. During the pandemic, when bars were focusing on drinks to-go, Capoferri was offering next-level carry-out cocktails, including bottled Espresso Martinis, bagged Old Fashioneds, and this canned Piña Colada soda. Cut to three years later, and even though the other to-go drinks are no longer available, Tropipop—made with rum, coconut, pineapple, and lactose—remains on the bar’s menu. And now it’s available nationwide through LiveWire. I highly recommend stocking up on it if you’re looking to bring some tropical vibes to your next holiday party. 8-pack/$56, drinklivewire.com
