Drink of the Week: Figlia Sole Nonalcoholic Aperitivo

The continued growth of the nonalcoholic drinks category not only makes the scene more inclusive but far more interesting. Anytime I have a gathering of friends, I always make sure to have some NA options available for folks who don’t drink or simply don’t feel like having alcohol that day. And now that the weather is finally conducive to park picnics and backyard happy hours, it’s perfect timing for the new Figlia Sole Nonalcoholic Aperitivo.

In our spring issue, we featured a lineup of alcohol-free aperitifs, with many solid brands now populating the category. The list included one of my personal faves, the Figlia Fiore. Their flagship release is lively and complex with notes of blood orange and baking spice. So I was delighted to learn of the brand’s sophomore launch with the Figlia Sole, a summer-forward expression with juicy fruit and fresh herbs.

The Figlia Sole, like the Fiore before it, is made with whole ingredients and natural extracts like peach and Meyer lemon juices, sweet basil, black tea, white peppercorn, and elderflower. The result is a fresh-tasting and complex aperitif, fruit-forward and well balanced with spice, botanical notes and a solidly bitter backbone. Interesting enough to sip solo on ice, the Sole can also be mixed with seltzer for a simple spritz or incorporated into cocktails. $43, drinkfiglia.com
