Drink of the Week: Bushwick Tea Company Ginger and Turmeric Tea

It’s curious for something as ancient as tea to be trending, but I have a hard time thinking of a better way to describe the current state of leafy affairs. Last month, in its 2025 trends forecast, New York City’s Institute of Culinary Education cited tea as an ingredient to watch. A few weeks prior, Whole Foods called 2025 “tea’s time,” and noted how it’s increasingly popular as both a beverage and in culinary applications like cakes and other desserts. What’s more, in the last 20 years, U.S. tea imports have more than tripled, growing from nearly 160 million in 2002 to more than 508 million in 2022. From this bounty, I’m especially fond of Bushwick Tea Company’s Ginger and Turmeric loose-leaf tea. Spiced with ginger, lemongrass, and black pepper, it’s bright and bracing but perfectly balanced.

Like other caffeine-free herbal teas, it makes an excellent after-dinner sipper. But I also love to brew a cup as a late afternoon pick-me-up or as a pre-game drink before I head out and about for the evening (what can I say, I live hard). If I have leftover brewed tea, I’ll reduce it on the stovetop with a little sugar or honey to make syrups for cocktails or to stir into my morning oatmeal. However you approach it, something this beautifully crafted never goes out of style. 4 oz./$25, bushwicktea.com
