Strawberry Roan: Strawberry Whiskey Highball

Sweet strawberries balance the spice of rye whiskey in this summery highball.

“Strawberries and herbs are a classic flavor pair, shown here in a slightly different way,” says Brian Downing, the owner, operator, and lead bartender of Louisville whiskey bar The Silver Dollar. The sweet, juicy notes of strawberry soda balance well with the spice of rye whiskey in this playful highball named for a Marty Robbins song. “I wanted something crushable to enjoy out on our patio, and this hits the spot.”

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. rye whiskey
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. herbal liqueur (The Silver Dollar suggests Brucato Chaparral or green Chartreuse)
  • 1/4 oz. simple syrup (1:1)
  • 4 oz. strawberry soda (The Silver Dollar uses Jarritos)
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:highball
  • Garnish:strawberry and mint sprig

Preparation

Add the first 4 ingredients to a shaker and shake with ice. Strain into an ice-filled glass and top with strawberry soda. Garnish.
