Drink of the Week: Bero Shandies

Tom Holland was standing behind the bar in West Hollywood’s The Benjamin trying to knock the bottlecap off his Bero Kingston Golden Pils in one smooth move with a bottle opener, and not succeeding. When he finally got it on the sixth try, the room erupted in cheers. It was a party for his nonalcoholic beer and annual padel event. It was also my first time trying Bero. I’m not one to get starry-eyed over celebrity drink ventures, but Bero’s new NA canned shandies, which contain 30% of Kingston Golden Pils and 70% lemonade, definitely hit the mark.

The limited-edition lineup debuted this week and will be available all summer, adding to the growing world of NA drink options. The four flavors include Daybreak with lemon and lime, Golden Hour with pink grapefruit, Sunset with elderflower and lemon, and Midnight with blackberry and yuzu. Each is equally refreshing and effervescent with a hint of malt and a balanced sweetness, though I’m partial to the Golden Hour with its hint of bright, bitter grapefruit.

As someone who likes to keep things light with NA beers like pilsners, I’ll be stocking my fridge and cooler with these canned shandies. They’ll be available on the Bero site on Monday, June 8, and then will expand to stores like Target, Total Wine, and more next month. 12 cans (355ml)/$21.99, berobrewing.com
