Surf Lodge + Boisson’s 10 Alcohol-Free Summer Wines

In our July/August 2022 issue, Jayma Cardoso, founder/partner of Surf Lodge in Montauk, shares how the pandemic opened her eyes to mindful drinking, particularly low- and no-alcohol wine. Wanting to create an alcohol-free wine list for her restaurant, she reached out to Nick Bodkins, co-founder of New York’s spirit-free bottle shop Boisson. “The Boisson partnership was a natural extension of The Surf Lodge’s focus on holistic wellness, offering an elevated set of choices for non-drinkers or guests who simply want to take a night off and feel their best day and night,” she says. Looking for refreshing zero-proof options to offer up at picnics and beach parties? Cardoso and Bodkins recommend these 10 alcohol-free summer wines.

Leitz Blanc de Blancs

This aromatic white blend by German wine producer Weingut Eins Leitz is milder than Leitz’s Riesling. “It’s a delicate blend with clean, classic flavors making it the perfect complement to a variety of mild food pairings,” says Cardoso. $18/750ml

Giesen Sauvignon Blanc

Bring out this refreshing wine when serving light meals on warm days. It features bright notes of citrus, freshly cut herbs, blackcurrant leaf and tropical fruit. “I also love drinking it as an apéritif as it has a tight acidic bite that cleanses the palate after a summer meal,” says Bodkins. $16/750ml

Giesen Rosé

This nonalcoholic rosé possesses full red and stone fruit flavors. But is “still clean, crisp and refreshing for a pick-me-up feeling on a hot summer day,” says Cardoso. $16/750ml

Noughty Sparkling Rosé

“Made from organic Tempranillo grapes from southern Spain, this lightly carbonated rosé is perfect for summer entertaining,” says Bodkins. Pair it with salty and spicy foods, such as a charcuterie board. $16/750ml

Noughty Chardonnay

“An elegant ode to the iconic variety of white wine, this sparkling Chardonnay maintains a classic Chardonnay-like richness and is great for cooling off on a hot day,” says Bodkins. Serve it with hors d’oeuvres or mild, buttery dishes. $22/750ml

Leitz Sparkling Rosé

The versatile Leitz sparkling rosé is a go-to for casual beach day sipping or mixing into a spirit-free spritz. “Made from Pinot Noir grapes that are macerated for six hours and pressed, it creates this berries-and-cream like flavor that is so delicious,” says Cardoso. $22/750ml

Sovi Sparkling Wine

“Sovi is unique because it’s sommelier-owned, so everything they create is top quality,” says Bodkins. “This brut-style sparkling chenin blanc is dry, crisp, and refreshing with peel and white flowers.” $27.50/8.4 oz. 4-pack

Studio Null Prickly Red

This dry red blend is made from organically grown Tempranillo and Syrah grapes that are pressed and fermented. They then undergo a “gentle, low-temperature dealcoholization to preserve all the aromas, acidity, and freshness of the wine,” says Cardoso. $32/750ml

Proxies Zephyr

The Proxies rosé layers floral, citrusy, and subtle bitter notes, bringing “lush gardens and a warm summer breeze to mind,” says Bodkins, who pairs it with seafood or light pasta with farmers-market fresh zucchini. $28/750ml

Proxies Sauvage

“Inspired by the terroir and forests of Canada, Proxies Sauvage features green aromas of crisp apples, spruce tips, and fresh evergreen,” says Bodkins. Serve this nonalcoholic Sauvignon Blanc wine as an apéritif or a table wine with a light dinner. $28/750ml
