Vecchio Amico: A Wintry Old Pal Recipe

Il Carciofo bartender Jacob Orneleas transforms the Old Pal cocktail into the perfect wintry sipper with seasonal ingredients like blood orange liqueur, chocolate bitters, and clove-infused vermouth.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. rye whiskey
  • 1/2 oz. Campari
  • 1/2 oz. clove-infused Carpano Bianco
  • 1/4 oz. creme de cacao
  • 1/4 oz. blood orange liqueur
  • 2 dashes chocolate bitters
  • Tools:mixing glass, barspoon
  • Glass:coupe
  • Garnish:orange swath

Preparation

In a mixing glass, add all of the ingredients along with lots of ice cubes. Stir until chilled and diluted. Strain into a chilled coupe. Express an orange swath over the cocktail and use as a garnish.
Clove-Infused Carpano BiancoCombine 1L of Carpano Bianco, 2 cinnamon sticks, 8 cloves, and 4 orange peels (about half an orange) in a container with as little air space as possible and infuse for 24 hours (best stored in a basement, cellar temp or by a drafty window). Strain back into the bottle.
