Tinto de Negroni: A Low-ABV Negroni Take

low-ABV Negroni wine Negroni

Red wine boosts the dark fruit flavors and brings down the ABV in this Negroni-inspired cocktail.

This low-ABV Negroni riff by Adriana Ramos, Employees Only Los Angeles bar manager, takes its inspiration from her travels through Spain and the country’s popular Tinto De Verano. In this Tinto de Negroni, a full-bodied red wine stands in for gin. “What makes this Negroni riff so great is that it has all the typical flavors associated with a classic Negroni but with more of the juicy dark fruits found in bold red wines,” says Ramos.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 oz. Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1 oz. Campari
  • 1/4 oz. Fernet Branca
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • Tools:mixing glass, barspoon
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:orange twist

Preparation

Add all of the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir to chill. Strain over a large ice cube in a glass. Garnish.

NoteFor a stronger kick, Ramos says gin can be introduced by reducing the wine according to taste.
