The Warthog: A Pear Cocktail

The Warthog spiced pear cocktail

A fall cocktail with the comforting flavors of the season.

This pear cocktail, which celebrates the warm, cozy aromas and flavors of the fall, wasn’t actually inspired by the season. Drink creator Jim McCourt of Charleston’s Prohibition made it in honor of his pet pig Bella and her love of pears and lemons. “I started with a local gin called Striped Pig (obvious choice), a little lighter on the juniper than most London drys and a nice floral bouquet of lavender and some orange oil,” he said. The St. George Spiced Pear liqueur adds both the ripeness and spices people enjoy this time of year, while fresh lemon juice brightens up the cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. gin
  • 3/4 oz. St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz. honey
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:charred rosemary sprig

Preparation

Combine all of the ingredients in an ice-filled shaker. Shake and strain into a glass filled with ice. Torch a rosemary sprig, blow it out, and place across the top of the glass for garnish.
