The Buzz: A Tequila Cocktail

With the Espresso Martini dominating bar menus, John Stanton, director of beverage at LA’s Bar Clara, wanted to create his own twist on the cocktail but with Angelenos’ favorite spirit: tequila. The aged tequila is mixed with coffee liqueur, then boosted even more by dark crème de cacao and heavy cream.


  • 1 1/4 oz. reposado tequila
  • 1 1/4 oz. coffee liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. dark crème de cacao
  • 3/4 oz. heavy cream
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:cocoa powder


Add all of the ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake well until thoroughly mixed and chilled. Strain into the glass over crushed ice. Garnish with a light dusting of cocoa powder.
