The Brooklyn Cocktail

“Fun fact, the original Brooklyn Cocktail recipe didn’t have dry vermouth, it was sweet vermouth (thank you, David Wondrich)! It was just misprinted with dry vermouth at some point, and now that’s the version everyone knows,” says Clover Club co-owner Tom Macy of this classic cocktail named after the New York City neighborhood. “The drink is a clear descendant of the Manhattan—my all-time favorite cocktail—but still possesses a singular identity.”

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. rye whiskey
  • 1/2 oz. dry vermouth
  • 1/2 oz. amaro (Macy uses CioCiaro)
  • Heavy ¼ oz. maraschino liqueur (about 2 tsp.)
  • Tools:barspoon, mixing glass, strainer
  • Glass:coupe
  • Garnish:cherry

Preparation

Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, then stir to chill. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish.
