St. Regis Julep

st. regis julep

The New Orleans way to celebrate Derby Day.

“The St. Regis Julep was created by the famous John Swago of the old St. Regis in New Orleans. It is one of the first drinks I ever made from Famous New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix ‘Em by Stanley Clisby Arthur,” says Cure bartender Ryan Gannon. “It is a funky, awesome riff on a julep that I try to make anytime I get a request for a julep.”

  • 1 1/2 oz. rye whiskey
  • 1/2 oz. Jamaican rum (Gannon uses Hamilton Pot Still)
  • 1/4 oz. rich Demerara syrup (2:1)
  • 1/2 tsp. grenadine
  • Handful of fresh mint
  • Tools:barspoon
  • Glass:julep tin
  • Garnish:fresh mint bouquet

Add all the ingredients to the julep tin and muddle the mint gently with barspoon. Add 2 cubes of cracked ice, stirring to chill. Add crushed ice to fill halfway; let chill. Add more to fill. Garnish.
