st. regis julep“The St. Regis Julep was created by the famous John Swago of the old St. Regis in New Orleans. It is one of the first drinks I ever made from Famous New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix ‘Em by Stanley Clisby Arthur,” says Cure bartender Ryan Gannon. “It is a funky, awesome riff on a julep that I try to make anytime I get a request for a julep.”

1½ oz. rye whiskey
½ oz. Jamaican rum (Gannon uses Hamilton Pot Still)
¼ oz. rich Demerara syrup (2:1)
½ tsp. grenadine
Handful of fresh mint
Tools: barspoon,
Glass: julep tin
Garnish: fresh mint bouquet

Add all the ingredients to the julep tin and muddle the mint gently with barspoon. Add 2 cubes of cracked ice, stirring to chill. Add crushed ice to fill halfway; let chill. Add more to fill. Garnish.

Ryan Gannon, Cure, New Orleans
