Rudisill’s Redemption

Cranberries and currants join rich demerara rum and a host of other rich flavors in this fruitcake-inspired cocktail. “It’s named after Marie Rudisill, the aunt of Truman Capote who was regularly featured on the tonight show as the fruitcake lady,” says Chris Barrett.

Ingredients

  • 1 1⁄2 oz. demerara rum
  • 1⁄2 oz. unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1⁄4 oz. Cherry Heering
  • 1⁄4 oz. peach liqueur
  • 1⁄4 oz. crème de cassis
  • 1⁄4 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 2 dashes chocolate bitters
  • 1 fresh egg white (pasteurized if you like)
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:coupe
  • Garnish:orange wedge

Preparation

Prepare a glass by moistening the edge with a lime wedge and dipping it into a saucer filled with crushed walnuts, tapping to discard any excess. Combine all ingredients in a shaker and shake without ice to combine; add ice and shake again to chill and make the egg white foamy. Strain into the prepared glass and garnish.
