Phoenix Down

Fresh sage and green Chartreuse offer an herbaceous twist on a classic hot toddy.

1 1/2 oz. Cognac
1/2 oz. green Chartreuse
1/4 oz. honey syrup (1:1)
1/4 oz. simple syrup (1:1)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1/8 oz. fresh lemon juice
3 oz. boiling water
1 lemon wedge
1/2 orange wheel
2 fresh sage leaves
Tools: muddler, barspoon
Glass: Irish coffee or mug

In the base of a preheated glass or mug, gently muddle the sage and fruit. Add the remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
