Persephone Sunset: A Spirit-Free Cocktail

Persephone Sunset spirit-free cocktail Kayleigh Blome

A zero-proof autumn refresher.

For our November/December 2022 issue, Kayleigh Blome, who leads the spirit-free cocktail program at Seattle’s Stampede Cocktail Club, offered their five picks for making NA cocktails. But for those who want further guidance on what to do with a zero-proof spirit, Blome shared this recipe using Wilderton Lustre, a citrusy and herbaceous NA spirit.

“When I tried Wilderton Lustre I was thrilled to have something that inspires me as much as a traditional spirit would,” they said. “It achieves its invocation of daytime through aromatic qualities of orris root, Ceylon Black Tea, tarragon, citrus, and florals.”

In this Persephone Sunset recipe, Blome uses the sherry vinegar’s dried fruit and nut flavors to bridge the Lustre with the lemon’s brightness.

Ingredients

  • Tools:shaker, strainer, barspoon
  • Glass:collins
  • Garnish:pomegranate seeds and mint or tarragon

Preparation

Prepare the glass by adding grenadine and then adding crushed ice halfway up the glass. In a shaker combine the rest of the ingredients and do a light shake as to not overdilute. Strain the contents of the shaker slowly into the prepared glass. Add in the pomegranate seeds and fill the glass the rest of the way with crushed ice, using a barspoon to disperse the seeds as desired. Garnish with mint and stir before enjoying.
