Spicy Margarita From Mixteca

A spicy Margarita with lasting heat.

At New York City’s Mixteca, Victor Lopez (one of 2026’s Imbibe 75 People to Watch) dares to add some extra kick to the spicy Margarita. Rather than the usual spices and peppers, Lopez opts for hot honey and wasabi, which, according to Lopez, “give the Margarita a creamy texture” and a more consistent heat than chiles.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 oz. blanco tequila
  • 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 oz. fresh cucumber juice
  • 1/2 oz. fresh pineapple juice
  • 1/4 oz. simple syrup
  • 3/4 tsp. Mike’s Extra Hot Honey
  • 3/4 tsp. wasabi
  • Tools:shaker, strainer, fine-mesh strainer
  • Glass:rocks
  • Garnish:cucumber ribbon and pinch of tajín

Preparation

Combine all of the ingredients in a shaker with ice. Fine strain into a chilled rocks glass full of ice. Garnish.
