Cold-brew has proven a trustworthy companion to Campari in the Negroni, so naturally the boost of coffee also works well in the cocktail's lower-octane cousin, the Americano. At J & Tony's in San Diego, they use Modern Times' Black House Blend for their cold brew, which "introduces a berry fruitiness from Ethiopian coffee and a cocoa caramel backbone from the Sumatra to harmonize with the already bright and bitter Americano while adding an additional layer of depth and complexity," says lead bartender Will Pidd.
