Indian Paintbrush, A Vodka Cocktail

vodka cocktail

Rosemary syrup boosts this grapefruit and vodka number from Texas.

Named after the iconic Texas wildflower, the Indian Paintbrush is a vodka cocktail that’s “beautiful in its simplicity and balance,” says Garage bar general manager Paul Finn. With fresh local grapefruit juice and rosemary, “it perfectly captures the essence of Austin.”

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. vodka
  • 1 oz. fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 oz. rosemary syrup
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:coupe
  • Garnish:rosemary sprig

Preparation

Shake the ingredients together with ice. Double strain into a chilled coupe and garnish.
Rosemary SyrupPrep your fresh rosemary by cutting 7-8 stems to 4″ in length. Pour 1 cup of water into a pot and cover. Turn the stove on high. When the water starts to boil, turn off the burner, remove the pot and add the rosemary. Stir the rosemary for 2 minutes, then add 1 cup of sugar. Continue to stir until the sugar dissolves. Once dissolved, fine strain the mixture into a container. Let it cool, then seal and refrigerate.
