Death Valley: An Absinthe Highball

Death Valley

The Death in the Afternoon gets a Ranch Water treatment.

For summer, Justin Lavenue, owner of The Roosevelt Room in Austin, decided to turn the classic Death in the Afternoon into an absinthe highball a la Ranch Water. He trades out the Champagne and lemon for sparkling water and lime.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. absinthe (The Roosevelt Room uses Kübler)
  • 1/4 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 12 oz. bottle of Topo Chico
  • Tools:jigger
  • Garnish:lime wedge

Preparation

Open a bottle of Topo Chico. Take a big sip or pour out around 1 1/2 oz of the bottle. Pour the absinthe and lime juice into the bottle. Insert a long straw and a lime wedge.
