An Irish coffee twist with banana and beer.

In this Irish coffee recipe by Sláinte Irish Pub in Oakland, Irish whiskey shows off its natural affinity for the flavors of coffee, banana, and stout.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. Irish whiskey
  • 1 oz. cold-brew coffee concentrate
  • 1/2 oz. banana liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. Guinness syrup
  • 2 dashes chocolate bitters
  • 3 dashes of saline solution (or 1 small pinch of sea salt)
  • Tools:shaker, strainer, fine strainer
  • Glass:Nick & Nora
  • Garnish:coffee-cocoa-dusted cherry

Preparation

Shake all of the ingredients with ice, then double strain into a chilled glass, and garnish.
Guinness SyrupCombine 8 oz. of Guinness stout with 8 oz. of demerara sugar in a saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring, until sugar has dissolved, then cool and bottle for use within 1 week.
Coffee-Cocoa-Dusted CherryUse a clean cloth or paper towel to dry a maraschino cherry, then roll it in a dish of fine-ground coffee and cocoa powder. Place on a skewer and rest on the edge of the glass as garnish.
