Rum Cocktail: Plum Dang It

Armed with the goal of  creating a seasonal rum cocktail that “celebrated the rum’s flavors instead of covering it with other ingredients,” Atlanta bartender Samantha Schoessler softens the spirit with a dose of brown sugar syrup and adds a pop of fruitiness via muddled plum and lime juice.

2 oz. rum (Schoessler uses Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum)
½ oz. brown sugar syrup (1:1)
2 slices plum
2 slices lime
Tools: mixing glass, barspoon, strainer
Glass: coupe
Garnish: sliced plum

Muddle the plum and lime in a mixing glass with the syrup. Add the rum and ice and stir until chilled. Strain into a coupe and garnish.
