Event Recap: Bar Convent Brooklyn

Bar Convent Brooklyn wrapped up another successful year in New York. With 144 exhibitors, 112 new products debuted, 62 panels and tasting demonstrations, this was their largest event to date.

A big component of BCB has been education, and this year, sessions touched upon everything from political hot topics to building brands and beating the odds of bar ownership. Seminar topics included inclusion in the hospitality world,  the art of bartending, how to build and maintain a stellar bar team, and what it takes to get media coverage for a bar. Imbibe executive editor Paul Clarke joined beverage consultant and activist Ashtin Berry to discuss activism in the bar community.

There were also tastings, live demos and plenty of opportunities to check out new products and trends on a well-curated show floor. Two categories that had an especially large presence at this year’s event were rum and alcohol-free drinks. Excellent rums from Barbados, Jamaica and elsewhere had a strong showing, and the number and range of alcohol-free “spirits” increased noticeably, and more producers were showcasing their own takes on alcohol-free cocktail bases and mixers.

The dates for BCB 2020 have not been announced yet, but you can follow them on Instagram for news, updates and a save the date.
