Drink of the Week: Brooklyn Brewery’s Framboisie

brooklyn brewery's framboisie“Discreet” is an apt descriptor for the raspberry characteristic in this limited release from the Brooklyn Quarterly Experiment line of beers at Brooklyn Brewery. In the traditional style of framboise, a sour-beer base was added to Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels to age along with 15 pounds of fresh raspberries, after which it was bottle conditioned with Brettanomyces  and Champagne yeasts. The resulting brew is dry, tart and funky up front, followed by a subtle wash of juicy raspberry and a bready finish. Tongue-in-cheek name and pale, rose-gold color aside, the 7.3 percent ABV makes this one a deceptively heady sipper—perfect for your next surrealist dinner party.
