Drink of the Week: Ten To One Five Origin Select Rum

Tasting through the rum world can be an extended expedition. Each island in the Caribbean has its own port of call, offering intriguing looks into the island’s unique take on the spirit. Now, there’s a new rum excursion with a number of stops on the itinerary: Ten To One Five Origin Select Rum.

Ten To One founder Marc Farrell introduced this latest permanent addition to the portfolio on February 1, composed of rums from five Caribbean nations. Rums from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, and the Dominican Republic are joined by extra special rum from Guyana that was distilled on a double wooden pot still at Port Mourant and aged 11 to 15 years. This wooden pot still is the only one of its kind still in operation. And it has been producing rich, high-ester rums for more than 250 years.

Bottled at 92 proof, the rum reaches deep into the flavor spectrum. It features touches of pastry cream, toasted sugar, winter spice, and marmalade, and the finish is long and lustrous. Designed as a sipping rum, best accompanied by a glass and a good friend or two, Five Origin Select offers a distinctively flavorful journey. $64.99, tentoonerum.com
