Vietnam is the second largest coffee producer in the world, behind Brazil, but you’d still be hard-pressed to find a single-origin bean from the country. Sahra Nguyen is aiming to change that with her company Nguyen Coffee Supply. One of our 2020 Imbibe 75 People to Watch, Nguyen is sourcing, importing and roasting high-quality, single-origin Vietnamese coffee, and her newest release is a 100-percent peaberry robusta. In the U.S., robusta is often used in mass-market coffees, but Nguyen sources organic beans from a single family farm in Da Lat in the central highlands of southern Vietnam, and she roasts in her Brooklyn facility to highlight the coffee’s deep, earthy flavors of bitter chocolate and Scotch whisky.
