Drink of the Week: Aplós Calme

Aplós is a thoughtful brand that recently introduced the hemp-infused Calme to its line of no-alcohol spirits. It’s a perfect option for people who are avoiding alcohol but still want a beverage that allows them to relax and unwind or are looking for a spirit-like equivalent for sipping and mixing (pregnant women, however, should probably refrain, as its formula has not been FDA-evaluated yet).

Calme is an incredibly potent botanical experience. Speed Rack co-founder Lynnette Marrero helped develop the formulas for Calme and its counterpart Arise. “I felt there was a gap on full-flavored nonalcoholic liquid that gave me the proper spirit cues,” explains Marrero. “I wanted something with the alcohol bite, the cooling sensation after a spirit clears your palate, and something bold to mix with cocktails.”

Smelling and drinking Calme feels like a walk in a garden. Upon opening the bottle, my nose was buzzing from the hits of gentian, basil, rosemary, and coriander. And while the label suggests pairing it with tonic and citrus, Calme is zingy and fresh-tasting enough to stand on its own without citrus.

Aplós Calme is easily becoming my go-to zero-proof spirit. Its mindful mantra and hemp infusion make it a feel-good beverage and a reminder of warmer days ahead. $48, aplos.world.
