Drink of the Week: Garrison Brothers Whiskey & Pecan Pralines

I realize it may be stretching the parameters of this column a bit to call ice cream a “drink.” But for a creamy, sweet bourbon-infused pint, I will allow it. This month marked the third release of the Garrison Brothers Whiskey & Pecan Pralines, the ever-popular collaboration with California-based McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams. And honestly, what’s not to love? Rich, creamy vanilla ice cream infused with straight bourbon whiskey and studded with caramelized pecans? Pour me another scoop.

Both companies have a history of doing what they do well. Located on a farm and ranch in the Texas Hill Country, Garrison Brothers Distillery launched the first bourbon whiskey to be (legally) made in Texas in 2010 and has since gained a devoted following. Meanwhile, McConnell’s was founded in Santa Barbara, California, in 1949 and is now run by the family’s third generation of owners. The ice cream makers utilize dairy from grass-fed Central Coast cows and aim to partner with other sustainability-minded producers.

The delicious collaboration with Garrison Brothers is a natural match, with the flavors of the ice cream complemented by the notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice in the bourbon (which adds a flavorful boost but no measurable ABV). Snag a pint—either online or in scoop shops in SoCal—while they last. $12, mcconnells.com
