Drink of the Week: Alaskan Brewing Heritage Coffee Brown Ale

alaskan-brewing-coffee-beer-bottle-shot-vertical-copyToday’s Drink of the Week exemplifies one of our favorite new trends in brewing—experimental coffee beers. Brewers are having a field day with coffee these days, incorporating it into non-traditional beer styles and collaborating with local roasters to perfect the process. Today’s Drink of the Week, Alaskan Brewing’s Heritage Coffee Brown Ale, is a light brown ale brewed with Heritage Coffee‘s signature Brazilian blend Paixao. To boost the coffee profile, some of the malts were roasted with the coffee beans to cross-pollinate the flavor from the early stages of production. The coffee is then cold-brewed to reduce bitterness and it’s worked into the beer during the brewing process. A malty, honey-like sweetness leads the flavor of the final brew, with the coffee highlighting the caramel and light chocolate notes of the beer and lending a subtle earthiness on the finish. It’s now available in 22-oz. bombers.
