Drink of the Week: 21st Amendment Toaster Pastry

toaster-pastry-beer-ctsy-21st-amendmentStouts, Oktoberfests and pumpkin beers get plenty of love this time of year, but today’s Drink of the Week gives a little attention to another style we enjoy when the weather gets crisp. An India-style Red Ale weighing in at 7.6% ABV, 21st Amendment Brewery’s Toaster Pastry is the first beer brewed at the company’s new facilities, named as a nod to the building’s former life as a former Kellogg factory.

The brew is being distributed in new extra-large 19.2-oz. cans, and it balances toasty aromatics with a biscuity flavor and a crisp, bitter finish. It’s only been  on shelves for about a month, but it’s already bringing home accolades, inlcuding a silver medal in the Double Red Ale category at the Great American Beer Festival last week (see some of the other winners here).
