For her Old Fashioned cocktail riff, bartender Jessica Stewart incorporates a brown sugar-chai syrup in the recipe.
2 oz. Irish whiskey
½ oz. brown sugar-chai syrup
3 dashes Bittermen’s Elemakule Tiki Bitters
Tools: barspoon, strainer
Garnish: orange twist, grated nutmeg
Combine all the ingredients in a mixing tin with ice and stir until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish.
Chai Syrup: Steep 1 tsp. of loose chai in 8 oz. of hot water for 3-5 minutes. Combine with an equal amount of brown sugar. Whisk until the sugar dissolves.
