Broken Corazon Club

A float of Fernet tempers the bright flavors of this tropical highball.

Created by Portland bartender Damaris Peterson, this cocktail was meant to capture “the elation and heartbreak that swells with temperamental love,” says High Noon bar director Tom Lindstedt. “The drink features a little tropical-funk from rhum agricole and maraschino liqueur, comforted by lime, pineapple, and grenadine, while the drier-style fernet hangs over everything like a storm cloud.”

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz. overproof rhum agricole blanc
  • ¾ oz. pineapple juice
  • ¾ oz. fresh lime juice
  • ½ oz. maraschino liqueur
  • ¼ oz. grenadine
  • ¼ oz. Fernet (High Noon uses Fernet Vallet
  • Tools:shaker, strainer
  • Glass:Collins
  • Garnish:lemon slice, orange slice

Preparation

Combine the rhum, pineapple, lime, maraschino and grenadine in a shaker with ice. Shake until chilled. Strain into a Collins glass with fresh ice. Float the Fernet on top and garnish.
